The next Call of Duty title has been confirmed by Activision for a 2016 release and game studio Infinity Ward to develop. What is currently unknown is the game title. Speculations across the internet are between a fourth instalment of the modern warfare series, Modern Warfare 4 and a sequel to the widely considered disappointing Ghosts series, Call of Duty Ghosts 2.
Games TM February magazine issue has potentially leaked and confirmed the next Infinity Ward game to be “Call of Duty Ghosts 2”. In the magazine issue, it labels Ghosts 2 as one of the most anticipated releases for 2016, along with a release date of November 2016.
The section of the article:
When creative strategist Robert Bowling exited Infinity Ward in 2012, he put the departure down to the studio doing “too much ‘pew pew’ not enough new new.” We got a look at what he meant with the release of Call of Duty: Ghosts – a solid, yet unspectacular next-gen debut for the franchise. Infinity Ward will have had three years to work on a follow up, and it needs to showcase the same creative spark that once put in on the map with Modern Warfare back in ’08 if it wants any chance of standing shoulder to shoulder with Sledgehammer and Treyarch.
Their is no new imagery or specifics about the game besides the title and with Games TM being an established and reputable magazine it is unclear why this has gone to print and whether not it is a “presumption”.
Sledgehammer have given this week a little surprise by adding some new content. Advanced Warfare has received a new update on Xbox On, a new weapon. The M1 Garand is now available in supply drops. Users were notified through the “message of the day” in-game menu and also mentions that a special announcement will happen this weekend.
Will Sledgehammer potentially release new maps? Unlikely, but not impossible. There must clearly be a strong user base still playing Advanced Warfare otherwise there would not have been a new content drop. Time will tell.

The Xbox One store has been updated by Microsoft and reveals the release date for the first Black Ops 3 DLC, Awakening. Awakening will be released on Xbox One on 3rd March.
The season begins with DLC 1 Awakening, releasing on 3/3. Get 4 all-new MP maps: Skyjacked, Splash, Rise and Gauntlet, taking players from the snowy outskirts of Zurich to a colorful abandoned water theme park, as well as the next chapter in Zombies. Set in an eerie medieval castle, the Origins cast of Richtofen, Nicolai, Takeo, and Dempsey, picks up where The Giant left off and head to ‘Der Eisendrache’ on a mission to stop the Zombie Apocalypse.
The Awakening DLC Includes:
Gauntlet: Grounded in a military training facility, Gauntlet plays up the core philosophy of Treyarch’s classic three lane map structure with distinct variety in visuals and gameplay. Each of the three primary lanes has a unique environment as players battle through a sprawling jungle, sub-zero artic zone and rainy urban cityscape.
Splash: Set in an abandoned water theme park, this vibrant and playful map delivers an imaginative environment complete with waterslides, a wrecked pirate ship, and a lazy river ride that winds through a fantastical forgotten city. Splash is designed to drive an open flow of combat, including plenty of opportunities for underwater gameplay.
Rise: Set in the snowy outskirts of Zurich, Rise is a Coalescence Corporation construction project for a massive subterranean research campus. The design of the map caters to a mix of classic Call of Duty cover combat alongside strategic core movement opportunities, with each section of the map offering distinctly different styles of gameplay.
Skyjacked: Set on a security VTOL in the clouds over urban Zurich, Skyjacked is a reimagined version of the popular Call of Duty®: Black Ops II multiplayer map Hijacked, and retains the same fast and frenetic gameplay from one of the most popular maps in Call of Duty® history, but with a twist. Skyjacked gives players the opportunity to explore the map in a variety of new ways thanks to the all-new core movement system in Black Ops III.
Der Eisendrache, the first chapter of Call of Duty: Black Ops III‘s Zombies DLC adventure will take players on an epic journey with the Origin characters Richtofen, Nicolai, Takeo, and Dempsey. Set in an eerie medieval castle built upon an ancient site of unspeakable horror, massive deposits of Element 115 have recently been discovered, delivering inspired new gameplay and – in Zombies tradition – a variety of exciting plot twists and surprises that fans will have the opportunity to discover for themselves.
This will not come as much a suprise but Activision confirmed during their Quarter 4 results conference call that Call of Duty 2016 will hit shelves this holiday season and will be developed by long-time Call of Duty creators Infinity Ward.
No concrete details have been revealed yet but Activision mentioned the next title in the CoD franchise will be “innovative”.
